Zircon American Fire Glass is a beautiful addition to any home project in the works. As a popular customer-favorite, Zircon glass is sure to impress any house guest or neighbor around.
Each piece of Zircon has a distinct diamond-like shape to it and holds a reflective, or luster, coating around it that works as a reflective glaze to make the product look beautiful in the flames.
Zircon is also often used in many types of house-improvement projects, whether it be in a fire feature, landscape project, aquarium filling, or just as house decor.
Most of our fire media products have either a reflective (premium) or luster coating on them, but it can be difficult to distinguish the difference between the two. The difference starts with the formation of the glass.
While reflective glass is made by spraying metallic-oxide onto a sheet of glass before the glass is fully made so it is absorbed into the glass itself, Zircon Fire Glass has the luster coating added after the glass is already formed.
The main difference between the two is the reaction that the coating has when met with the flames of a fire. Reflective fire glass creates a twinkling look that causes the fire to appear as though it’s bouncing off of the glass and going in all directions.
Luster fire glass on the other hand creates a spectacle where it looks as though the glass is actually melting in the fire-pit. Of course, there’s no real need to worry about it melting, so in the meantime, sit back and enjoy the view.
